The ratio of the length of a rectangle to its width is 5:2. If the length of rectangle is 40 cm, what is its width

 Ans:

Ratio of length and width of rectangle must be in proportion to the actual length and width of the rectangle.

Let we consider width of rectangle be = x

Given:-

Ratio of  Length : Width is = 5 : 2 respectively

Actual Length is = 40 cm

Now we know that, they are in proportion, so we can write them as,

5 : 2 = 40 : x

∴ 5/2 = 40/x

Cross multiplying, we get

5x = 80

x = 16 cm

Therefore width of rectangle is 16 cm.
